FAQ ShotLight

Q1: Is this Lightshot for Mac?
No. Lightshot is made by Skillbrains and has its own Mac version. ShotLight is an independent app from BinerSoft that works the same way (Shift+Cmd+5, select, draw, copy or save) but keeps everything on your Mac: there is no upload and no public link.

Q2: Why not just use the built-in macOS screenshot?
You can, but marking something up takes Shift+Cmd+4, clicking the thumbnail, Markup, the tools, and Done. ShotLight puts the pen, arrow, box and text right next to the selection, before the screenshot is even saved, and copies the result with one key. That is why people who moved from Windows miss Lightshot.

Q3: What happens to the macOS Shift+Cmd+5?
macOS normally opens its screenshot and recording bar with Shift+Cmd+5. ShotLight disables that one shortcut in the macOS keyboard settings when you click the button on the Shortcut tab, and with Accessibility allowed it also catches the keys before macOS does, so it works at once (otherwise after the next login). "Give back to macOS" restores the shortcut. Shift+Cmd+3, Shift+Cmd+4 and screen recording from the bar are not touched; you can still open the bar from Launchpad (Screenshot app).

Q4: Does it upload my screenshots anywhere?
No. There is no upload, no share button and no account inside the capture flow. The picture goes to the clipboard, to a file, or to the printer. The only network calls are the license check for buyers and a once-a-day check for a new version.

Q5: How does the free trial work?
The first 7 days after the first launch, everything works and no account is needed. After that, ShotLight asks you to buy it (one payment) and sign in. Nothing is charged automatically.

Q6: Can I use it on more than one Mac?
Yes. The license belongs to your binersoft.com account, not to a computer. Sign in with the same email and password on each Mac you use. You can see and sign out the computers on your account page.

Q7: Does it work with several monitors and Retina displays?
Yes. Every display is frozen at once; drag the selection on the one you want. Retina captures are saved at full pixel resolution (a 550x290 point selection on a Retina display is a 1100x580 pixel image).

Q8: How do I pay?
With PayPal (USD, PayPal balance or credit/debit card), or in Rupiah with QRIS, GoPay, ShopeePay or a bank virtual account. Go to the Buy page. ShotLight is unlocked right after the payment: sign in inside the app.

Q9: Are future versions free?
Yes. The license is for lifetime and all future versions are free. ShotLight tells you in the menu bar when a new version is available.

Q10: macOS says ShotLight cannot see the screen.
Allow Screen Recording for ShotLight in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording, then quit ShotLight (menu bar icon, Quit) and open it again. macOS applies the permission only after a restart of the app.

Q11: Is the app signed?
Yes. ShotLight is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without warnings.

Q12: I forgot my password.
Reset it on the forgot password page. A code is sent to your email.
