FAQ GuiTabs

Q1: Is it really free?
Yes, all of it. There is no paid version, no account and no ads.

Q2: Why is it not in the Chrome Web Store?
For now it is distributed here as a zip that you load yourself, see the download page. Chrome shows a "Developer mode" reminder for extensions installed this way. That is normal.

Q3: Which browsers work?
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on a computer. The LEDs need Web Bluetooth, which Firefox and Safari do not have. Brave has it switched off by default (brave://flags, "Web Bluetooth API"). On Linux, Chrome may need chrome://flags "Experimental Web Platform features" for Bluetooth.

Q4: Does it work without a LiteJam?
The key and scale detection and the chord list work on their own, but GuiTabs is made for the LED fretboard: the lights are the point.

Q5: Does it work with other LED fretboards?
No, only LiteJam for now.

Q6: The fretboard does not show up in the Bluetooth window.
Make sure it is switched on and not connected to the phone app at the same time (close the app, or turn Bluetooth off on the phone). Check that Bluetooth is on for the computer and that Chrome is allowed to use it (on macOS: System Settings, Privacy and Security, Bluetooth).

Q7: The panel does not appear.
Click the GuiTabs button in the toolbar. It only works on Songsterr tab pages and on tabs.ultimate-guitar.com. If you just installed or updated the extension, refresh the page.

Q8: How do I update?
Extensions installed from a folder do not update by themselves. Download the new zip from the download page, unzip it over the same folder and click the reload arrow on the GuiTabs card in chrome://extensions. The versions page lists every release.

Q9: What does it do with my data?
Nothing leaves your computer. GuiTabs reads the tab on the page you have open, and remembers your settings and recent songs in the browser. It has no server.
